when to give your baby solid foods
2010
Next week we are going to pick up our WIC coupons in Lombard. Since hubby has work on that day, we asked Ninong Art to give us a ride. WIC (Women, Infant and Children) is a special supplemental health and nutrition program for pregnant and breastfeeding women and children up to five years of age. They provide nutritional foods such as milk, peanut butter, cheese, eggs, juice, dried beans, dried beans, whole grain bread, tortillas, iron-fortified infant formula and $8.00 dollars that you can buy for fresh fruits and vegetables. Josh is receiving nine cans of Enfamil Lipil every month (12.9 oz) aside from the milk that we are getting from Manang Nanet ( hubby’s relative). Right now I have one box that full of Enfamil milk cans. I wonder if baby josh can consumed all those milk before it expired. Sometimes my baby doesn’t drink that much. When I asked Ate Oyet regarding his drinking habit she said it is normal because he is undergoing a natural development. It seems everyday he is getting big and taller. I do not know how much he weighs now. Will find it when he has his fourth month check-up on Monday. The other day we gave him his first cereal and he finished half of it. We gave him banana using his Munchkin baby mesh feeder. He really like it and he can finished 1/4 of one banana. He also like drinking his Gerber organic apple juice. I am giving him solids one at a time to know if he has allergic reaction to certain food.
How will I know when my baby’s ready?
Your baby will give you clear signs when he’s ready to move beyond liquid-only nourishment. Cues to look for include:
• Head control. Your baby needs to be able to keep his head in a steady, upright position.
• Losing the “extrusion reflex.” To keep solid food in his mouth and then swallow it, your baby needs to stop using his tongue to push food out of his mouth.
• Sitting well when supported. Even if he’s not quite ready for a highchair, your baby needs to be able to sit upright to swallow well.
• Chewing motions. Your baby’s mouth and tongue develop in sync with his digestive system. To start solids, he should be able to move food to the back of his mouth and swallow. As he learns to swallow efficiently, you may notice less drooling. He may also be teething around the same time.
• Significant weight gain. Most babies are ready to eat solids when they’ve doubled their birth weight (or weigh about 15 pounds) and are at least 4 months old.
• Growing appetite. He seems hungry — even with eight to ten feedings of breast milk or formula a day.
• Curiosity about what you’re eating. Your baby may begin eyeing your bowl of rice or reaching for a forkful of fettuccine as it travels from your plate to your mouth. source.
new vaccine schedules
2010
Baby Josh will have his four month vaccination on Monday. Our appointment with Dr. Han will be in the afternoon. I hate to see my baby crying every time he receives his immunization. As a mother I can feel the pain he experienced and it breaks my heart. The only I can do for him is to hug and calm him after the shots. Sometimes I having thoughts of him having vaccination because I heard it could caused of autism. But my husband said there is nothing to worry because the data has consistently shown that the vaccine doesn’t cause autism. He is a doctor so I should believe him. I received an email from babycenter regarding the new vaccine schedules issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Family Physicians. They recommended giving boys human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to protect them against genital warts. To guard them against flu all children should receive the H1N1.
The most significant changes are:
* A recommendation that children older than 6 months receive the H1N1 influenza vaccine.
* A newly licensed HPV vaccine for girls, known as HPV2, to protect them from cervical cancer, which can be caused by certain strains of HPV. Girls should get their first dose of either the HPV2 or the earlier HPV4 vaccine, which is still considered effective, around age 11 or 12.
* A suggestion that a three-dose series of the HPV4 vaccine can be given to boys between 9 and 18 years old to prevent genital warts.
* A statement that the use of combination vaccines are generally preferred over separate injections.
* The need to revaccinate some high-risk children who have already received the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4). Kids at high risk tend to be those with immune system disorders. Booster shots aren’t recommended for those whose only risk factor is living in a dormitory setting, according to the new vaccine schedules.

cute baby mat
2010
I am looking for a cute and soft baby mat for my baby and I found this Bear Baby Mat from Wrapables.com. It is 31″ mat and it is a comfortable place for the baby to play and rest on. It is machine washable, dryable and baby safe. It comes from different colors. My baby is now four months old and he needs something soft for his tummy time. Tummy time is very important for babies so that they can learn to push up, roll over, sit up, crawl, and pull to a stand. According to babycenter babies that do not spend time face-down often will experienced delays in their motor skills development. It is recommended to your baby to have tummy time for 30 minutes a day. baby josh cries and become fussy every time we will have his tummy time. Sometimes I just put him on my tummy so he can see me and he wont cry easily. Another trick you can do during tummy time is to talk to himor make funny faces. Your baby will enjoys it and he will get distracted from the uneasy feeling of being face-down.

baby josh bath time
2010
Baby josh just took a warm bath. To keep him clean and smell good I used Aveeno body wash. You can use the Aveeno body wash everyday, it is made from natural oat extract, tear-free and hypoallergenic wash. It leaves your baby skin without drying. The fragrance is mild and it is gentle for baby’s skin. He loves the water. I am no problem giving him a bath because he always smile and giggle. Sometimes I gave him baby mini massage and it seems he is enjoying it. His dad likes massage too. =)

New toy and more milk
2010
Last Sunday after church we went to my husband’s relatives in Tinley Park to get my baby’s milk. From time to time Manang Naneth is giving us supply of Enfamil Premium milk. Her sister Manang Brenda is a pediatrician so she has bundles of milk on her office from her supplier. I am giving him formula because my breast milk is not enough for him. And to increase my breast milk supply I used breast pump and i drink a lot of water and juice. I am thankful that we have relatives that giving us milk supply and that save us our money to buy different things like his diapers and wipes. Just last week we bought two boxes of Pampers and it costs us more than 60 dollars. Good thing we have 10% discount because of Joan is working in Target as pharmacy tech.
Since we were already there, we watched National Football League: Super Bowl XLIV. yay! the New Orleans Saints won the game. Josh received a gift from Nathan and Railey and it is a Leap frog “My Pal Scout”. It is a cute green dog. For the first time he received a different toy because usually he gets a frog toys. hehe.
